They are just out of their school uniforms but are completely clued in to what is in and what is out as far as college fashion goes. Checked cotton shorts, mini skirts, spaghettis and loose tees — Delhi University’s freshers get a thumbs up from the fashion police.
The good old pair of blue jeans remains a staple for most boys and girls this year, but a lot of them are vouching for airy and comfortable shorts for the sultry summer.
“Shorts are the best in this heat. Colours like yellow, lime green and electric pink are my favourites,” said Malvika Khanduja, an English (Hons) student at Kirori Mal college.
Apart from colourful cotton shorts, checked knee-length shorts teamed with billabong style tees or spaghettis are what most girls are choosing. Inspired by Katrina Kaif’s look in New York, these shorts are readily available in markets like Sarojini Nagar, Janpath and Kamla Nagar for Rs 200-350.
“I find the checkered shorts really comfortable and stylish. I have bought almost all colours for college,” said Shivangi Sharma of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College.
Even guys are going for the casual look with striped, checked or printed bermudas or long shorts, teamed with loose T-shirts.
Harem pants have paved the way for the straight dhoti/salwar that is worn teamed with a tee.
Clothes apart, youngsters are also purchasing over-sized glares, chunky bracelets and trendy watches. On the foot front, casual and sporty slippers in bright colours with motifs are what these youngsters are
choosing to discover this new world in.
