Ayush Sinha (27) of Shimla secured the 7th rank in the civil services examination – 2017 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in his third attempt.

Ayush graduated in chemical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Goa. He also has a master’s degree in biological sciences.

In his second attempt in 2106, Ayush secured the 100th rank and was selected for the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). He missed the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) by just two ranks. Ayush was in training at IRS in Nagpur but had taken leave to prepare for last year’s exams.

“I am very happy. It was my third attempt. I attribute this success to my family. It was my dream which has come true today,” said Ayush after the civil service examination results were declared on Friday.

His father, late PK Sinha was an Indian Forest Service officer while his mother Alka Verma is an associate professor at St Bede’s College, Shimla.

He has an elder sister who works in a private company in New Delhi.

Ayush’s maternal uncle, Atul Verma, is additional director general of police (ADGP), Vigilance, in Himachal Pradesh.
