Last year’s record of erroneous admissions based on fake marksheets and certificates have led Delhi University (DU) to take stringent measures this academic session. DU has procured this year’s Class XII results of CBSE and state boards to ensure the authenticity of data provided to them by students.

SC/ST certificates are also under DU’s scanner this admission season. “We are very strict with students registering themselves in the reserved category. Our officials are scrutinising every certificate to detect fakes,” said Amit Kumar Bardhan, deputy dean, Students Welfare.

He said that the problem of fake caste certificates is much bigger than that of fake marksheets. “Those with fake caste certificates are turned away from the registration counter itself,” Bardhan said.

Fake marksheets represent another headache for DU officials. Authenticating actual board results with the scores mentioned by students from different state boards was a tough task.

This year however, DU has received Class XII results from all the relevant state boards. The result database sent by state boards to DU are stored in compact discs.
