Announcing the launch, the academy’s director and well-known documentary film-maker K Hariharan said that for the two-year post graduate (PG) diploma course, students would be provided with multimedia capabilities, exclusive sound recording theatres, editing suites, shooting floors, auditoriums, high quality outdoor shooting equipment and a well-equipped library.

During the two years of study, each student, as part of a team, would produce short films, from documentaries to fiction. These films would range from computerised animation to music videos, he said.

“The best advantage for the students is that during their learning period, they will be situated in the busiest film production facility in India.” This would give them the chance to interact with working professionals on a daily basis, hewent on to say.

The academy would encourage students to learn from all the four disciplines being offered — directing, cinematography, sound recording and editing.

“We will encourage our students to learn from all the four disciplines in the first year so that when they branch out, they get to understand the true meaning of cinema as a collaborative effort,” he added.
