  • Description:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the largest and most influential political party in India as of mid-2025. It was founded in April 6, 1980, in Delhi under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani. The party's ideology focuses on Hindutva, cultural nationalism, and socio-economic welfare. The BJP became active in Bihar in the 1990s, but the party started playing a decisive role from the 2005 assembly election. In the 2005 and 2010 elections, the BJP contested in alliance with the Janata Dal (United) and succeeded in forming the government both times. In the 2010 election, the BJP performed unprecedentedly well by winning 91 out of the 102 seats it contested, out of the total 243. The JDU-BJP alliance broke up in 2013, though. The BJP lost the 2015 election as the RJD, JDU and Congress formed an alliance. But the BJP's alliance with JDU was re-formed in 2017. In the 2020 Bihar assembly election, the BJP emerged as the stronger party in the alliance by winning 74 seats, while the JDU got 43 seats. This further increased the leadership role of the BJP in the state. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the BJP won 12 out of the 17 seats it contested, out of the 40 in Bihar. The BJP has continuously strengthened its position in Bihar with the help of caste equations, organisational strength, and the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party made infrastructure development, law and order, and social welfare schemes major election issues. For the 2025 assembly election, the BJP planned large-scale rallies and contact campaigns led by Narendra Modi.
