Gadag comes under the Gadag district and it is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies. People of Gadag voted for Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
Gadag assembly constituency had 2,15,472 electors in 2018, out of which 1,07,788 were male voters and 1,07,661 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.9% votes.
In the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election 2018, Gadag constituency had 10 candidates for assembly seat contention. Gadag was one of 80 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Hanamantagouda Krishnagouda Patil winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Anil Mensinakai by a margin of just 1,868 votes.
The top two candidates split 96.9% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Hanamantagouda Krishnagouda Patil got a total of 77,699 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Anil Mensinakai secured 75,831 votes. Indian New Congress Party's candidate Basanagouda M Patil secured 1,043 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 49.0%, 47.8% and 0.7% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's H K Patil defeated Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress Party's Anil Prakashbabu Mensinkai by 33,727 votes.
