Hirekerur is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Haveri district. People of Hirekerur voted for Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In 2018, the Hirekerur assembly seat had 1,75,956 registered voters, 91,451 were male and 84,501 were female voters. 0.6% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 10 candidates in the fray from Hirekerur constituency. Hirekerur was one of 80 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was an extremely close fight, with Indian National Congress's Basavanagouda Patil narrowly winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Ujaneshwara Banakar by a slim margin of 555 votes.
The top two candidates split 96.5% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Basavanagouda Patil got a total of 72,461 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Ujaneshwara Banakar secured 71,906 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate Siddappa Gudadappanavar secured 3,597 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 48.4%, 48.0% and 2.4% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Karnataka Jantha Paksha's U. B. Banakar defeated Indian National Congress's B.C.Patil by 2,606 votes.
