Eetha release postponed: Shraddha Kapoor film on Vithabai Narayangaonkar avoids clash with Yash's Toxic

Eetha, featuring Shraddha Kapoor as Vithabai Narayangaonkar, was earlier set to release on August 28 and clash with Geetu Mohandas' Toxic.

Audiences will have to wait a little longer for Shraddha Kapoor's Eetha. The film, which was set to release in theatres on August 28, has now been postponed. The makers of the film, Maddock Films, have officially announced that the film has been postponed from August to December. That means that Laxman Utekar's Eetha will no longer clash with Yash's pan-India release Toxic: A FairyTale for GrownUps.

When will Eetha release?

Eetha will now release in theatres on December 4. Maddock Films announced the new release date with the caption, “TOOFAN ke liye taiyaar rehna... kyunki #EETHA aa rahi hai, 4th December ko (Get ready for the storm which will arrive with Eetha on December 4)!”

The teaser of Shraddha-starrer Eetha was released on June, and attracted universal acclaim. It showed lavani artistes giving a performance. However, they are soon stopped by an angry crowd, who demand Eetha (Shraddha) to come on stage. Meanwhile, visuals show Eetha backstage getting ready for her performance while being nine months pregnant. She soon goes into labour and is seen in agony as she goes through painful labour cramps. A voiceover asks Eetha to skip the performance as she may die, but she insists because she wants to set a precedent, and is seen returning to the stage right after giving birth to her child.

The following visuals show Eetha’s influence in the industry and her power over the audience. She is seen walking among a crowd that cheers her on. The teaser ends with the voiceover calling her a “toofan”. The teaser of Eetha was screened alongside Cocktail 2 in theatres.

About Eetha

The film follows Vithabai Narayangaonkar, a renowned Marathi Tamasha and Lavani performer who rose from humble beginnings to become one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated folk theatre artists. The film also stars Randeep Hooda, Anant Joshi, and others. It is co-produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.

Eetha is based on the life of the legendary Lavani artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar, a towering figure in Maharashtra's Lavani and Tamasha traditions. She became one of the most respected folk artists of her time and inspired generations of performers.

Her contribution to Indian folk arts was recognised by the President of India in 1957 and again in 1990. But behind the applause and fame was a life filled with hardship. Despite being celebrated across the state, Vithabai is believed to have spent her final years battling financial difficulties. Her passion for the art form lived on through her family, with her daughters and sons-in-law also taking up Lavani and Tamasha.
