Sikandar Kher clears he is not chasing social causes through his movies
Actor Sikandar Kher says he look for entertainment factor while picking projects, not inclination towards any social cause
Sikandar Kher, who garnered a lot of praise for web show Aarya and his last OTT film, Monica O My Darling!, has two projects releasing soon. And according to the actor, it’s “completely coincidental” that both the projects are based on social issues, as he himself never goes around looking to touch base upon social causes through his work.

While Dukaan focuses on the subject of surrogacy, where he will be seen playing a Gujarati shopkeeper, web series Chidiya Udd is about human trafficking which is set in Kamathipura.
“These are two entirely different social causes but are hard-hitting. While we have so many fictional stories which have strong narratives, it’s nice to be a part of stories with social messages. We read about these stories in newspapers, people talk about them and the inspiration behind these stories are those real life people who went through so much,” says Kher.
But finding a social message in his project is not his intention while going through the projects.
“It is not important for me to associate with projects which highlight a social cause. I look for entertainment as an actor. It may sound selfish but that is my thought. If the story gives out a social message organically, it is good, if not, then also it is good,” he says.
The actor, who has started shooting for season 3 of Aarya, continues, “That’s also because I don’t want it to be used randomly to just show your own point of view. So, if we can highlight and try to show it is good only if the social cause does come in with the script, and it works as a whole. Otherwise, it will just be for the sake of including a social cause, which will dilute the whole issue.”
