Martin Sheen plans to hit pilgrimage trail

Actor Martin Sheen is hoping to return to Europe and tackle the 800 kilometres El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage alone and on foot before he dies.

“I’ve done it in a car, I’ve done it in a film and I still look forward to doing it with no camera, no car, no phone; just me and a walking stick. I would love to do it,” said the 71-year-old former West Wing. The actor is planning to walk from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to the Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela, where the remains of St James, the apostle of Jesus, are believed to be buried — just like other pilgrims.
