Yoga teacher to celebs like Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, Deepika Mehta is your new must-follow Instagrammer. The 30-something yoga teacher and body-positive activist has posted 1,900 photos of herself in every yoga pose you can imagine — some of these will make your jaws drop just as quickly as they’ll inspire you to roll out a mat and do some yoga. It’s just amazing to see all the daring postures Deepika can do. She has over 1,50,000 followers on Instagram, including actor Alia Bhatt.
There are a million and one people (including stars like Malaika Arora and Kareena Kapoor Khan) on Instagram who do yoga and post pictures about it. But what’s even more impressive than Deepika’s mastery of Ashtanga Yoga (an ancient dynamic system of yoga that links body movements to breath) is her inspiring body positivity. Deepika teachs yoga just as much as she teachs self-acceptance.

Deepika, who travels the world teaching yoga in exotic locations, is full to the brim with love and yoga knowledge. If you live in Mumbai, you should make the time to go to one of her yoga classes, where she offers workshops that focus on core strength training drills and build up to basic and more advanced arm balances, as well as acing headstands, forearm balance or handstands.
Deepika, who reportedly wanted to become a professional jazz dancer, has been practising yoga for almost two decades and has an incredible story as to how she got into it. A note on her website, Now We Are, reads:
“She encountered the teaching while on the quest to heal herself from a near death rock climbing accident. When doctors told her she would never walk again, she took matters into her own hands and found the healing powers of Ashtanga, meditation and Pranayama. Today, Deepika is one of the most recognisable teachers in India and spends most of her time teaching around the world!”
Deepika is a reliable source for scenic yoga shots and her whole Instagram is a breath of fresh air. Nothing pretentious about her. Just a fit woman doing some yoga — and inspiring everyone else to do the same. Scroll to see her show 10 more yoga postures that are clean, in alignment, aesthetically beautiful and awe-inspiring.
