Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea have confirmed the signing of German defender Antonio Rudiger from Serie A side AS Roma on a five year deal.
The 24 year old becomes the second addition to Antonio Conte’s side after the capture of goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who was released by Manchester City.
Antonio Rudiger, who has reportedly cost the Blues about £34 million, will strengthen the defence of Chelsea, who released John Terry and have sold Nathan Ake to Bournemouth.
“It’s a great feeling because not every player has the opportunity to join a huge club like this,” the defender told Chelsea’s official website. “I am looking forward to meeting up with my new teammates and I’m very proud to officially become a Chelsea player.”
“Antonio is still young but is experienced at club and international level and possesses all the requisite attributes to thrive in the Premier League,” said Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo. “We have been aware of him for some time, and we are confident he will fit in well with the squad.”
Rudiger joined Roma from German side VFB Stuttgart in 2015 and made 72 appearances for the Italian club across all competitions.
