After morning rain, residents suffer day-long power cuts

Residents complained that rainfall, recorded at 128 mm, inundated the city, and long power cuts ruined all their daytime activities.

The residents witnessed long power outages, after heavy rains lashed the city early Tuesday morning. The power supply remained erratic throughout the day with cases of heavy fluctuations, low voltage and tripping being reported in many areas.

The residents of the city complained that the officials of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) stopped picking up phones as complaints from across the city poured in. The power cuts caused water boosting problem as well.

The residents complained that rainfall, recorded at 128 mm, inundated the city, and long power cuts ruined all their daytime activities.

Nishi Kamani, a resident of Sushant Lok 1, said, “There was no water in overhead tank for the entire day. The pump operator could not boost water to tank. The power went off at 4.15 am and it came back at 12.30 pm in the afternoon. After 30 minutes , it again went off, leaving us without electricity for the entire day.”

The rain started around 4 am on Tuesday morning, disturbing the supply of electricity. The DHBVN office received complaints of trees falling on feeders, cases of breakdown, tripping, and low voltage.

“A tree branch fell on the electricity feeder line and the supply went off at around 5.40 am. My car also got damaged by the tree branch. I informed the DHBVN officials and the electricians came around 11 am when rain stopped. We faced a seven-hour long power cut on Tuesday,” said MC Yadav, a resident of Sector 31, adding that the tripping continued for the entire day.

Sectors 27, 28, 40, 30, South City, various phases of DLF, Ardee City, and other areas remained disturbed as well due to power supply fault.

RS Yadav, a resident of Sector 40, said, “The electricity went around 5.45 am and it resumed for 20 minutes at 11.30 am and then again went off for two hours. Overall, the electricity supply was highly erratic on Tuesday.” The DHBVN assigned a team of electricians to task to attend complaints however.

“About 12 feeders were damaged for reasons such as falling of trees, poles etc. In Manesar, seven trees fell on the feeder and it took five hours for our staff to make them operational,” said Sanjiv Chopra, chief engineer, DHBVN.
