To beautify roads in the old city and streamline movement of traffic, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) will relocate street vendors at selected sites in the city.

A committee of 42 members has been constituted under the chairmanship of MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal to execute the plan.
Huda administrator Praveen Kumar and deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Bharti Arora are members of the committee, besides bank officials, councillors and representatives of vendors.
The committee will submit its report on various alternative sites within a fortnight.
The MCG commissioner has asked the Huda administrator to provide land/sites wherever possible in areas under Huda.
In MCG areas, the sites can be close to the railway station, bus stand, near gurdwaras, Sohna Chowk etc.
“There could be more than a dozen locations where vendors can be relocated,” said a senior MCG official.
The highlight of the initiative is that the civic body will help street vendors to redesign their rehris (rickshaws) thereby enhancing its look and making them environment-friendly. The rickshaws will be equipped with proper shade, storage box etc. The vendors will also be provided loan from banks to improve the design.
In the corporation area, as per the survey conducted by a private agency authorised by MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal, nearly 2,714 street vendors are running their businesses without licences.
“The MCG will issue licences to vendors and for their authenticity and record maintenance, biometric system will be introduced. On the basis of the biometric identification, a plot of a particular size will be provided to them. The list will be sent to the bank, which the MCG ropes in to finance, for enhancing the design,” said a senior official.
