Gurgaon: Gangs targeting cars back, three tyres stolen in last 2 days

Police suspect the involvement of organised gangs in Delhi

After lying low for some time, gangs targeting car tyres and windows have once again surfaced in the east police district of Gurgaon with three incidents of tyre thefts being reported on Friday.

In another instance, thieves broke the windows of a car and stole valuables. It is suspected that organised gangs from Delhi are behind these thefts and their activities were curbed for some time after the crime branch launched a campaign against them last year.

In the first instance, thieves stole the four tyres of a Hyundai Verna parked outside a house in Sector 57. The car belongs to Vishal Kapur, a resident of Sector 57, who said he had parked the car outside his house. The thieves struck at night and took away the tyres. A case was registered at the Sector 56 police station under Section 379 of the IPC.

The police said they have registered a case and the matter is being probed. “The incident happened during the night and there is no CCTV footage available. We will nab the culprits soon,” Arvind Kumar, SHO, Sector 56, said.

In another incident, thieves stole the tyres of a car,a Hyundai Verna, from a plot in Sector 46 on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. A case was registered under the Section 379 of the IPC at the Sector 50 police station on the complaint of Sunit Tandon, a chartered accountant and resident of Sector 46.

“I had purchased the Hyundai Verna last December and I had parked it outside my home around 11.30pm. In the morning, I found all four tyres missing and the workshop has prepared an estimate of Rs 90,000 to replace them,” Tandon said.

In the third incident, tyres were stolen on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday from a car parked outside a house in Sector 46. A case was registered under Section 379 of the IPC at the Sector 50 police station on the complaint of owner Deepak Chouhan. The police said the matter is being probed.

In Sector 29, thieves had broken the window of a car parked near Jalsa restaurant in Sector 27 and stole a laptop and Rs 20,000 kept in a bag in the car. A case was registered at the Sector 29 police station under Section 379 of the IPC.

“A sustained campaign was launched last year to curb these gangs and, if the need arises, special teams will be deputed crack down on these gangs again. We have now studied their modus operandi and know how they operate,” Ravinder Kumar, public relations officer, Gurgan police, said.
