“My daughter's behaviour has been changing over these past two years. When the domestic help at home told me that she frequently touched herself, I was shocked,” the mother told HT. “When I questioned my daughter, she said a maid in the school — when she was in Class 2 — would force her to meet in the ladies room everyday and abuse her.”

The girl, who is in Class 3 now, faced a similar situation on Friday but at the hands of another maid, the mother alleged.

The parents, who live in the tony Sushant Lok area of Gurgaon, filed a complaint at the Sector 56 police station on Monday. The police have booked the maids under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, as well.

When they informed the school, they were told that “kids live in their own world; please check your own surroundings first”, said the father. The couple approached the police after the school failed to act.

The school principal was not available for comments.

“My daughter has completely transformed… She does not talk much nor does she involve herself with us,” said the father, adding they planned to consult a child psychologist.

“We are taking legal action against the maids and conducting investigations. A woman ACP has been deployed to look into the matter,” joint commissioner of police Maheshwar Dayal said.
