Residents care for security guards: No theft at Gurgaon society in 10 years

Residents of Gurgaon society Garden-Ville look after their security guards like family. The guards in return guard the colony with their lives. Guards rarely leave the job and as a result - no theft in 10 years

The reason is that the residents and the society provide them residential and other facilities free of charge and also make them feel part of the community.

This is why this society has not witnessed a single theft since it came into existence in 2007.

The guards here who enjoy long and unbroken tenures, make extra efforts to ensure the safety and security of the area.

The residents, on the other hand, believe that the guards who have spent a decade in the locality know the people of the society and the surroundings, so are able to spot outsiders or suspicious movements easily.

The Garden-Ville, a small sector with 50 families residing, has taken the initiative to provide their guards with a room, toilet and other facilities for their comfort.

The residents’ association says that the guard cabins have a small kitchen with a washroom, which guarantees some basic comfort for the staff.

Madhu Sudan Choudhary, president of Garden-Ville RWA, said, “We treat them as family members and on every festival, they celebrate with us.

“It is also ensured that they enjoy the feast with everyone and don’t feel left out. The residents buy them new clothes and in the case of emergency advance salaries are also given”.

The society does not have a big contingent of guards, but those who have been employed have stayed on since the beginning and they live in the guard room, which is fitted with a cooler and television.

The guards are happy with the care shown by the society members.

Lovelesh Kumar (30), a security guard working here for the last six years, says, “The people here treat us like family and this motivates us to work extra hard to ensure the security of the residents. The residents trust us blindly and even leave their house keys with us.”

The guards feel at home and anytime they crave for home cooked food, they request the residents to cook for them.

Shiv Chander and Ramesh Kumar, both guards, also say that such facilities are not made available in any condominium or locality in Gurgaon, and that they would continue to serve the residents as long as they are capable.
