Robbery bid with ‘toy gun’ at Sohna foiled
The 27-year-old owner of the shop, Vikas Kumar, was busy wrapping up his day’s work at the shop when one of the suspects took him at gunpoint and asked him to hand over the cash.
An alleged robbery bid at a mobile shop in Sohna was foiled Wednesday night after a crowd gathered outside the shop, forcing the two suspects to flee. The police Friday said the incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the shop. However, the accused men are yet to be identified.
According to the police, two men came on a motorcycle and entered a mobile shop in the Sohna market at 9.10pm Wednesday. The 27-year-old owner of the shop, Vikas Kumar, was busy wrapping up his day’s work at the shop when one of the suspects took him at gunpoint and asked him to hand over the cash.
The owner allegedly fought back and raised an alarm, following which the neighbourhood shopkeepers gathered in front of the shop. “I caught hold of the man and his pistol fell. He tried to strangle me but I tried to fight back. He bit my hand and escaped,” he said. Their faces were covered, he added.
In the footage retrieved from the CCTV in the area, the two men are seen running towards their motorcycle on the main road.
The police team arrived at the spot within 15 minutes and Kumar handed over the pistol to them and also showed the CCTV footage of the camera installed in the shop. Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police, said the pistol recovered from the spot was a toy gun. “We have registered a case and recovered vital clues to help us to identify the suspects. We are also trying to check other CCTV camera footage in the area to identify the motorbike registration number,” he said.
A case under IPC sections 393 (robbery attempt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and Arms Act was registered at Sohna Police station. “We are probing the case from all angles,” Singh said.
