The incident took place at the Sirhol toll plaza on the Gurgaon Expressway on Saturday evening, when the 25-year-old woman was being shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi from Civil Hospital here.

According to doctors at the Civil Hospital, Rani Devi, a resident of Dhanwapur village, was referred to Safdarjung Hospital after haemoglobin level in her blood was found low. She went into early labour and delivered the baby with the help of health staff onboard the ambulance.

Later, the ambulance returned to the Civil Hospital. Both the mother and the baby are out of danger, though the baby is too weak and weighs around 700 gram only, the doctors said.
