Two held for fleeing with jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh from Gurgaon shop

Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing gold chains worth Rs8 lakh from a shop in Old Gurgaon last month.

Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing gold chains worth Rs8 lakh from a shop in Old Gurgaon last month.

The incident took place at Bhola Jewellers in New Colony area around 2:30pm on July 21. Two days after the robbery, police rewarded a 19-year-old salesgirl of the shop, Jainab, with Rs5,000 and a felicitation letter for chasing one of the accused.

The accused have been identified as Jai Singh, a resident of Farrukhnagar, and his friend Sombir Singh, a resident of Bahrana village in Jhajhar district, police said on Friday. The accused were nabbed on a tip-off.

Sombir was arrested on August 17 from Rajiv Chowk while Jai Singh was nabbed on August 19, said police.

On the day of the robbery, Jai Singh entered the shop on the pretext of seeing jewellery. He suddenly picked up four boxes containing gold chain and fled. He was chased by Jainab and one of the boxes fell from his hands. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera inside the shop.

Sombir was waiting for Jai Singh on a bike at some distance and the duo fled on the two-wheeler. Employees of a nearby toy shop had chased them but they escaped.

On the complaint of the shop owner, Sunil Bhola, a case was filed under Section 379-A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said the news of the arrest was not made public as they were interrogating them.
