17-year-old NEET aspirant dies after fall from building in Ahmedabad: Police

Police said the teenager had appeared for the NEET exam held on May 3 and was now preparing for the re-test scheduled for June 21.

A 17-year-old student preparing for the NEET re-test scheduled on June 21 died after allegedly falling from the sixth floor of a residential building in Ahmedabad’s New Ranip area in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

The Sabarmati police have registered an accidental death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

“The police control room received information at 2.52 am, following which our team reached the spot. The boy had already fallen from the sixth floor,” Sabarmati Police Inspector Y. R. Vaghela said, adding that no suicide note was found at the site.

Police said the teenager, who was living with his mother and brother, had appeared for the NEET exam held on May 3. The exam was later cancelled following allegations of a paper leak, and a re-test is scheduled for June 21.

Police said the boy was preparing for the re-test and, as an alternative, had also filled out a form for a pharmacy course in case his score did not meet expectations. A statement has been recorded from a relative.

The body was sent to Asarwa Civil Hospital for a postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
