21 lakh crop loans waived, Congress tells Shivraj Singh Chouhan
Congress workers, led by senior party functionary Suresh Pachauri, took a mini-van carrying loan waiver certificates to Chouhan’s residence.
Claiming that it has waived loans of 21 lakh farmers, the ruling Congress in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday presented a list of beneficiaries to former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has repeatedly accused the grand old party of making a false promise on the issue.
Congress workers, led by senior party functionary Suresh Pachauri, took a mini-van carrying loan waiver certificates to Chouhan’s residence. The party also clarified that its poll promise was limited to crop loans, and not “personal loans”.
The Congress had made loan waivers a key promise in its manifesto for the December assembly elections, and after Kamal Nath was sworn in as chief minister, he had signed an order for this purpose within two hours.
After receiving the bundle of loan waiver certificates, Chouhan tweeted, “Chief minister Kamal Nath has sent me a list of farmers of the agriculture department. Give me a list of banks, because the loans will be waived by the banks. Nothing will be achieved by duping the farmers and vitiating the atmosphere.”
