Bengal: Adhikari’s convoy allegedly attacked by TMC workers in West Midnapore

Kolkata: West Bengal’s leader of the opposition, Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy, was allegedly attacked by some Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers at Chandrakona Road in Bengal’s West Midnapore district late on Saturday evening.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Nandigram was not injured.
Adhikari staged a demonstration at the Chandrakona Road police beat house, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
“Adhikari has become a target of the TMC since the day he defeated Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram in the 2021 assembly elections. His convoy has been attacked earlier too. Elections are approaching. The chief minister barged into a building where ED raids were going on and snatched important documents. Seeing this, the TMC workers have got inspired and carried out the attacks,” BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya said.
TMC leader Arup Chakraborty said, “The common people raised ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans. Adhikari couldn’t tolerate this and directed the central force personnel (security guards) to charge the people with batons. The security personnel couldn’t differentiate between common people and BJP workers. They injured a local BJP leader. Adhikari is now staging a drama in the police outpost.”
The incident took place around 8 pm when Adhikari was returning home from Purulia after attending a political rally.
BJP workers were waiting to welcome the leader when a few TMC workers gathered at the spot, following which a scuffle broke out.
