The last time the 84-year-old Abdullah was summoned by the federal agency on May 31, he was quizzed for over three hours in Srinagar. The three-time former chief minister, had however, claimed the questioning was linked with the upcoming assembly elections in the Union territory (UT).

The case is related to a 113-crore alleged fraud that happened in the JKCA between 2004 and 2009. Abdullah was the president of the sports body from 2001 to 2012.

The former chief minister was probed in the matter in 2019 and 2020 as well.

The central agency had alleged that Abdullah ‘misused’ his position at the JKCA and made appointments in the sports body so that the BCCI-sponsored funds could be laundered. The ED attached commercial and residential properties of the former CM worth around 12 crore in December 2020, prompting Abdullah to approach the high court.

The National Conference (NC) leader said that the properties were not connected with the alleged crime and were either ancestral or obtained before the offence.
