IMD alerts: Cyclone Mandous remnants to bring rain in these states till Dec 15
The cyclone, which made landfall late Friday night by crossing the Tamil Nadu coast with a wind speed of 75 km/hour, weakened into a deep depression on Saturday, the IMD said.
Even though Cyclone Mandous relatively caused lesser impact, its remnants have been forecast to bring rainfall in many southern states and Union territories (UTs) till Thursday (December 15), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin.
The cyclone, which made landfall late Friday night by crossing the Tamil Nadu coast with a wind speed of 75 km/hour, weakened into a deep depression on Saturday, the Met department informed. Even so, it claimed the lives of four people in the southern state and led to massive waterlogging and uprooting of trees as well.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, the cyclonic circulation currently lies over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south interior Karnataka and north Kerala. It is likely to emerge into southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea off north Kerala-Karnataka coast. Under this influence, a fresh low-pressure area has been predicted to form over the same region on December 13.
Here are the key IMD alerts till December 15:
- Rainfall along with heavy downpours have been predicted in Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and south coastal Andhra Pradesh for the remainder of the night. The same weather is likely over Kerala and Mahe on December 12 and 13. There will be reduction in rainfall activity thereafter.
- The IMD has issued a sea warning with the forecast of squally weather - wind speed reaching 35-45 km/hour and gusting to 55km/hour - over southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea, and along and off Kerala-Karnataka coast on December 12 and 13.
- The Met department has asked fishermen not to venture into the sea along Kerala-Karnataka coast and Arabian Sea between December 12 and 15.
- Scattered to light rainfall/snowfall has been predicted over Jammu and Kashmir on December 12 due to another western disturbance under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and its neighbourhing regions.
- Another cyclonic circulation is expected emerge into south Andaman Sea on December 13, and under its influence, rainfall along with heavy falls are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 14 and 15.
