Lok Sabha Election 2024 Highlights: Mizoram completes preparations for polls

Criticising the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, senior BJD leader and former Odisha minister Padmanabha Behera said chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s guarantees are more impactful in the state than that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

“Here, only Naveen’s guarantees will work and no other guarantees will work in Odisha. The BJD will win more seats than the last assembly elections,” Behera told media persons on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi released the BJP's Lok Sabha poll manifesto, outlining his vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ as he exhorted people to give another mandate to his party to shape India’s 'destiny' for the next 1,000 years.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 updates: Farmers waved black flags at BJP candidate from Patiala Lok Sabha seat Preneet Kaur and raised slogans against the BJP-led government at the Centre while she was addressing party workers at Samana town on Sunday. Farmers owing allegiance to Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Kirti Kisan Union held a demonstration against Kaur when she arrived in Samana for the party event. According to police officials, some protesters were detained and later released.

Launching her party's poll campaign in western Uttar Pradesh, the BSP chief also asked the Muslim community not to split their votes. "If the Muslim community splits its votes, and votes for the Congress, then the BJP will get the benefit," she said at a rally in Saharanpur.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live updates: Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Nazuk Kumar said on Sunday that the government has completed all necessary preparations and is ready for the polling day. "For our parliamentary constituency, the poll date is April 19 and we have done all our preparations, we are on track and ready for the poll day," she told ANI.

The Chief Electoral Office of Delhi has announced a paid holiday in the national capital on the day of Lok Sabha polls on May 25. According to the order, all eligible employees -- public or private -- who are voters in Delhi are entitled to a paid holiday to exercise their democratic right to vote on the polling day. Voters from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan working in Delhi are also entitled to the paid holiday, it said.
