Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘s tweet on Saturday launching the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign to boost the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections became Twitter’s top worldwide trend hours after its launch.

Modi tweeted a video featuring a host of common people from across the country, lip-syncing the words ‘haan, main bhi chowkidar hoon’.

Even as it trended, Twitter was awash with comments including one from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

And Modi’s former ally and now bitter rival Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu paid a left handed compliment to the Prime Minister.

Expectedly, Union ministers and other BJP leaders hailed Prime Minister Modi and retweeted, Among them were Piyush Goyal, Smriti Irani and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

BJP’s strongman in Karnataka and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa too joined the party’s chorus to back the PM.

But Yeddyurappa’s endorsement of the PM’s drew a sharp riposte from Congress leader Siddaramaiah who said the slogan was an insult to real policemen.

PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said the PM has mastered the art of marketing and creating campaigns that resonate with the masses
