Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘s tweet on Saturday launching the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign to boost the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections became Twitter’s top worldwide trend hours after its launch.
Modi tweeted a video featuring a host of common people from across the country, lip-syncing the words ‘haan, main bhi chowkidar hoon’.
Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation.— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) March 16, 2019
But, I am not alone.
Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar.
Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar.
Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar
Even as it trended, Twitter was awash with comments including one from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Defensive tweet Mr Modi!— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) March 16, 2019

And Modi’s former ally and now bitter rival Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu paid a left handed compliment to the Prime Minister.
Expectedly, Union ministers and other BJP leaders hailed Prime Minister Modi and retweeted, Among them were Piyush Goyal, Smriti Irani and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
I am proud to join #MainBhiChowkidar movement. As a citizen who loves India, I shall do my best to defeat corruption, dirt, poverty & terrorism and help create a New India which is strong, secure & prosperous.— Piyush Goyal (@PiyushGoyal) March 16, 2019

We pledge again to work hard to eliminate corruption, keep #NewIndia clean, make last person prosperous and make our Nation stronger under the leadership of Hon PM @narendramodi ji ! https://t.co/NUp8ZZO39U
BJP’s strongman in Karnataka and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa too joined the party’s chorus to back the PM.

But Yeddyurappa’s endorsement of the PM’s drew a sharp riposte from Congress leader Siddaramaiah who said the slogan was an insult to real policemen.
Thief impersonating as Policeman is the greatest tragedy of our times & an insult to the real ones.— Siddaramaiah (@siddaramaiah) March 16, 2019
This disease is spreading to all the small thieves of our country who are trending #MainBhiChowkidar
Wise people say,
'The big thieves hang the little ones.'#ChorHiChowkidar
PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said the PM has mastered the art of marketing and creating campaigns that resonate with the masses
Poke as much fun as you want, but if theres one thing the PM has mastered over the years, its the art of marketing & creating campaigns that resonate with the masses. The irony obv is that Vijay Mallya , Mehul Choski, Nirav Modi all fled under this chowkidars watch. https://t.co/sneVifey86— Mehbooba Mufti (@MehboobaMufti) March 16, 2019
