Officials were rushing to give“final touches” to the elaborate arrangements for security, healthcare and sanitation at the Forest Research Institute, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dehradun on International Yoga Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead at least 50,000 enthusiasts on Thursday to mark the fourth edition of the International Yoga Day in the sprawling campus of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) Uttarakhand capital Dehradun.

Officials were rushing to give“final touches” to the elaborate arrangements for security, healthcare and sanitation at the venue and “leaving nothing to chance”. The forest department also launched an intensive drive to look for snakes and monkeys in the institute’s campus ahead of Modi’s visit.

Dehradun’s divisional forest officer (DFO) Rajeev Dhiman said the department’s staff is scanning the area for the wild animals.

The premier institute has a dense forest cover and its campus is spread across nearly 450 hectare with a plinth area of 2.5 hectare. It is well connected with that of the Mussoorie forest division and the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Tons River form its boundary. It comes under the Dehradun forest division.

Officials supervising the arrangements at the FRI ground said that on June 21 a fleet of buses will be pressed into service to provide transportation to people wishing to participate in the event.

“In fact, we appeal to them to use buses to reach FRI instead of using their own vehicles,” chief secretary Utpal Kumar said.

Kumar said yoga asanas approved under the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) will be practised at the venue on International Yoga Day.

Last year, Modi led the celebrations at Ramabai Ambedkar Sabha Sthal in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow as thousands of people across the country struck various poses and talked about the benefits of the ancient physical and spiritual discipline during events to celebrate the day.

The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 after Modi called for the day to be adopted as a global celebration of yoga, an ancient practice that began in India more than 5,000 years ago.
