A police official said Vishnoi had a heated argument with the station house officer of Sanchore police station Pushpendra Verma and other colleagues over her attendance before committing suicide. The family of the deceased constable has filed an FIR.

A police officer who requested anonymity said, “Due to lack of staff on holi, the Sanchore police staff was given duties in their non-jurisdiction area too. Vishnoi along with two other female constables were given duties at Rebariyo Ka Mohalla to maintain law and order. When patrolling van of police officers went for sudden inspection Vishnoi was not present after which SHO had marked her absent.”

Few hours later, Vishnoi went to police station and raised objection saying that she was in the duty area for eight hours then why her attendance has not been marked? After which a heated argument broke out between Vishnoi and another constable Kailam Bai whose duty was to post daily attendance record online.

“Other staff officers asked Vishnoi to go back to her duty after which Vishnoi left the police station and went to her quarters and committed suicide. Before committing suicide she had called DySP Sanchore four times in forty seconds. The DySP is also accused in the case for mentally torturing her,” the officer added.

On Saturday, family members after persuasion by Jalore SP Kesar Singh Shekhawat, the family members agreed for post mortem. The family members along with other people were sitting on protest at the mortuary of the government hospital and demanded to take action against the accused officers.

A suicide note was recovered from a room of Vishnoi in which she had alleged that she was harassed by senior police official including circle officer of Sanchore and station house officer of Sanchore police station.

SP Jalore said that in her note Vishnoi had alleged DySP Omprakash Ujjwal, Pushpendra Verma and another female colleague of mentally torturing her.

“The family members demanded the case be transferred to the crime branch for fair investigation. We have accepted their demand and I will be writing a letter to additional general of police, crime branch to accept this case for fair investigation,” said Shekhawat.

On Thursday evening Vishnoi didn’t come out his room for several hours after which her colleagues informed other staff members. The staff broke the door of her house where she was found hanging from a ceiling hook.

Vishnoi is native of Dhorimanna town of Barmer district. In her note, she had also apologized to her family and friends for taking this extreme step. She is survived of his mother, father, husband, and brother.

When CO Ujjwal was contacted to get his reaction he didn’t respond. SHO Praveen Verma said that Vishnoi committed suicide because of personal reasons.
