Two security personnel were injured on Saturday in Srinagar when a rifle was accidentally fired after militants ambushed a CRPF vehicle, killing one and injuring another.

The incident occurred when superintendent of police, Srinagar, Imtiaz Parray was addressing media in the aftermath of the attack. A policeman accidentally fired his rifle, with the bullet tearing through SP’s trousers and injuring two others – a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and another policeman.

The security forces are part of the cordon and search operations being conducted near Pantha Chowk where militants are believed to have escaped into a prominent school in the locality.

Two CRPF personnel were injured, and sub inspector killed, when militants ambushed their vehicle at around 5:30pm. The militants then escaped. Reports said gunshots were heard from within the school’s campus.
