One of the key prosecution witness in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, the domestic help of the Talwar family in 2008 — Bharti — appeared before a Ghaziabad court on Monday.
She narrated the sequence of events after she reached the Talwars’ residence on May 16, 2008.
Bharti had joined the Talwars a week before the murders and was the first to reach their residence on May 16, 2008.
With her testimony, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) wants to prove no intruders were involved and that the outermost door was not latched from outside.
Talwars’ flat at Jalvayu Vihar has three doors – an outermost grille door and another iron grille door and a wooden door with it at a distance.
CBI special public prosecutor RK Saini said Hemraj’s room had two doors — one opened inside the flat while the other door was between the outer grille door and the middle grille door.
Bharti said when she rang the doorbell and tried pushing the outermost door, it did not open. When she rang for the second time, Nupur opened the inner wooden door and spoke from behind the second grille door.
“She said Hemraj might have locked the main door and gone to fetch milk,” Bharti stated.
When Bharti asked for the keys, Nupur asked her to go down and take them from the balcony side. When Bharti went down, Nupur told her from the balcony that the door “was not locked but only latched”.
This time when Bharti pushed the outermost grille door, it opened. After she opened the latch of the second grille door and went in, she found Nupur and Rajesh weeping.
“Aunty removed a sheet over the girl’s body. Her throat was slashed. Aunty told me, ‘look what Hemraj has done’.” Bharti then went downstairs to seek neighbours’ help.
