In yet another honour killing case, close relatives of a girl from village Boparai Baaz Singh brutally murdered her lover here on Tuesday.
Harpreet Singh ‘Mani’, 22, a resident of Bhalla colony, Chheharta was planning to elope with Mandeep Kaur (changed name) and on Monday night.
The girl’s family came to know about it and caught Mani when he came to their place to pick up Kaur.
Early on Tuesday morning, members of Kaur’s family went to Mani’s place to tell his family that the youth was in their custody and they would kill him.
Soon after, the 22-year-old’s family lodged an FIR with the Chheharta police station.
On receiving the complaint, the police began their search. But before the police could free the youth, his body was found in a park in Chheharta, viciously hacked with sharp-edged weapons.
DSP Narinder Singh said said, “We have booked six people in the case including two maternal uncles of the girl, two cousins and a woman. Three other accused, however, managed to escape.”
