Heavy rains in Mumbai claimed one life and left six injured. Meanwhile, normal life was disrupted as roads became waterlogged and low-lying houses in parts of the city were submerged.

The meteorological department has predicted very heavy rains over the next 48 hours.

A youth, who had visited the Gateway of India to enjoy the rains with a friend, drowned into the choppy sea after losing balance. His friend, who also fell down, was rescued.

Three persons were injured by a lightning bolt in suburban Malad, while three others were injured in a wall collapse at Vikhroli in northeast Mumbai, police said.

The fire brigade control room said that nearly 100 calls related to tree collapse and short circuits were received. However, there was no loss of life in any of these incidents, they said.
