“It is not the right of Suprakash Chakravarty. S.S. Virk should agitate the right himself,” said Advocate General Ravi Kadam, while arguing the state’s petition challenging a Central Administrative Tribunal order that set aside the appointment of A.N. Roy as director general of police.

Chakravarty, director general (ACB), had challenged Roy’s appointment, saying he was not among the three seniormost officers and that S.S. Virk, DG (Housing), was left out of the list.

“[Virk] was happy as DG, Housing, till this came along,” said Kadam.

In court, the Centre was unable to answer the court’s questions about the status of Virk’s repatriation from Punjab to his home cadre Maharashtra at the time of his suspension.

The court has asked Additional Solicitor General Rajendra Raghuvanshi to answer the Centre’s queries on Virk as it is the cadre-controlling body of IPS officers.
