As Mayawati's chopper touched the Ram Lila Grounds, two slogans rent the air: "Char Goondo ki chaati par, button dabega hathi par (people will press the elephant button without fearing criminals)” and "Sarva Samaj ke samman mein, behenji maidan mein (Mayawati is in the electoral fray for the dignity of the entire society)”. But when she began speaking, the slogans died down and crowd hung on to every word.

She blamed all parties for the “destruction of UP. I hold the BJP, Congress and the RLD equally responsible...People will not forgive them.”

Santara Singh had come to the rally with high hopes. "We have come to hear what she has to say about Raja Bhaiyya (Raghuraj Pratap Singh, the independent candidate from Kunda)," he said. Raja Bhaiyya, a name synonymous with terror, used to rule over this region till Mayawati's government sent him and his father to jail under POTA. She did not let him down when she said, "Criminal elements have committed atrocities on the poor, the downtrodden. The Samajwadi Party did not do them any justice. It is only in the BSP government that the mafia goes behind bars or flees the state."

She went on, "Both Mulayam (Singh Yadav) and Amar (Singh) have deposited their wealth in banks abroad. They will also try to flee the country. My government will hold a probe. They would not be allowed to flee."
