INTENSE LOBBYING has begun within the BJP, as the Central BJP election committee meets on Friday to decide the candidature for Vidisha Lok Sabha and Bada Malehra Assembly seats by-elections.
Sources in the BJP said that, following opposition to the candidature of Sadhana Singh, BJP leaders close to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan might request the Central BJP leaders to field PHE Minister Rampal Singh from Vidisha. Their objective is to somehow scuttle the move to field Varun Gandhi from Vidisha.
Meanwhile, the name of Kapur Chand Guhara cropped up as prospective candidate from Bada Malehra seat, causing a flutter among the aspirants whose names found mention in the panel forwarded by the State BJP to the Central BJP leadership. One of the strong contenders for the ticket, Lalita Yadav, is trying to prevail upon the BJP leadership not to ignore her candidature through the Member of Parliament Ramkrishna Kusmaria. Kusmaria left for Delhi on Thursday and Yadav went to see him off at Bhopal railway station.
The aspirants, including Yadav and her followers, have started opposing the name of Guhara who once belonged to the CPI and won the assembly election from Bada Malehra on that party’s ticket. He later joined the Congress. Since Jagdish Shukla from the Congress is being seen as the strong contender for the Congress ticket, Guhara is hobnobbing with the BJP to ensure a party ticket for himself.
Being a Jain community member, Guhara’s candidature might suit the political arithmetic of the BJP because Jain voters are in a good number in the constituency, said the sources.
