THE TWO-AND-A-HALF year old son of a city trader, abducted on Monday, was found murdered in an isolated area across the Ganga, here on Tuesday. The servant of the family has already been taken into custody in this connection.
Chiraag, son of Anil Bajaj, resident of Ashok Nagar colony in Varanasi under Sigra police station had gone missing on Monday afternoon. Family members and neighbours suspected that Ajay, their servant, could have had a hand in the abduction. Their suspicions came true when Ajay was put on sustained interrogation after he was handed over to the police on Monday evening.
Police raided different places in Ramnagar area and Varanasi after news of the child’s abduction spread. According to the police, the case took an interesting turn when Ajay told them whereabouts of the abducted kid has been murdered allegedly by himself.
Based on his disclosure, a police team led by SSP Varanasi Ashutosh Pandey and reached an isolated area in Chandauli across the Ganga. On reaching there, the servant reportedly dug up a pit and recovered the dead body of the child.
“We have arrested Ajay for his involvement in the murder of the child,” SP City Anant Deo said. Police said Ajay attributed the murder of the child to atrocities on him by the mother of the child.
The servant is reported to have earlier told the police that he had handed over the kid to four armed persons on Chitaipur by-pass on Monday.
The residents of Sigra area earlier in the day brought life to a stand still in the area by protesting against police failure in recovery of the child. The protestors blocked traffic for many hours.
