Farmer commits suicide in WB

A farmer allegedly committed suicide due to bad crops and financial problems in West Bengal's Burdwan district, officials said today.

A farmer allegedly committed suicide due to bad crops and financial problems in West Bengal's Burdwan district, officials said today.

"The incident took place yesterday at Bhattakol village when the 65-year-old farmer consumed pesticide as he was suffering from financial losses due to bad harvest and was unable to pay a loan he had taken for sowing crops. He was rushed to Burdwan Medical College Hospital where he died today," Bhatar SDO Arindam Neogi said.

According to the victim's family, he had taken a loan last year for harvesting crop. But the crops failed and he suffered a huge loss. This year also he had taken loan to sow crops in the fields. But due to late monsoon the crops failed and he was very depressed.
