The acting England captain could bowl only two overs for Lancashire in a county match against Kent on Saturday. He complained of discomfit in an ankle that had bone fragments floating in it. Flintoff missed last week's first Test against Pakistan -- in which opener Andrew Strauss was captain -- and England's 5-0 one-day defeat to Sri Lanka.

Regular captain Michael Vaughan has a long-term knee injury. The second Test is at Old Trafford starting Thursday with the four-Test series 0-0.
