High court blast accused killed in J&K encounter

A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, prime accused in the 2011 Delhi High Court blast, was killed in an encounter with security forces on Monday in Dachan area of Kishtwar district, about 270 km from Jammu.

A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, prime accused in the 2011 Delhi High Court blast, was killed in an encounter with security forces on Monday in Dachan area of Kishtwar district, about 270 km from Jammu.

Amir Ali Kamal, the chargesheeted accused in the High Court blast, and his associate Mohammad Shafi were shot dead in an encounter on Monday in an encounter with the joint team of Kishtwar and Doda police along with a unit of Rashtriya Rifles.

According to sources, Ghulam Sarwar, a Pakistani militant and believed to be the planter of a bomb at the high court was also with Kamal and Shafi during the encounter but he managed to flee. Another terrorist Sajjad Mir was apprehended.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared a reward of R10 lakh on Kamal's head. It will now be handed over to Jammu and Kashmir police.

"He was the mastermind of the blast. Kamal had provided logistics and finance to the perpetrators of the attack. We were trailing him for a long time. On Monday morning he was shot dead in an encounter in Dacchan area, about 70 km from Kishtwar town," DIG Doda-Ramban Garib Dass told HT.

Amir Kamal, 30, was active since 2008. He and his two other associates were among the seven terrorists operating in the Kishtwar district.
