India gets 5th gold; Sudha Singh wins women's 3000m steeple

Sudha Singh of India won gold in the Asian Games women's 3000m steeplechase today. Singh finished in 9min 55.67sec, ahead of China's Jin Yuan (9:55.71) who claimed silver, with Japan's Minori Hayakari taking bronze (10:01.25).

Sudha Singh of India won gold in the Asian Games women's 3000m steeplechase on Sunday. Singh finished in 9min 55.67sec, ahead of China's Jin Yuan (9:55.71) who claimed silver, with Japan's Minori Hayakari taking bronze (10:01.25).

Earlier in the day, Preeja Sreedharan won a gold medal in the Asian Games women's 10,000m, while Kavita Raut bagged a silver.

The 28-year-old, who was fifth in the last Asiad in Doha in 2006, finished in 31min 50.28sec, ahead of team-mate Kavita Raut who claimed silver with 31:51.44 Bahrain's Ethiopian-born Shitaya Habtegebrel took bronze in 31:53.27.
