Indian firm to set up Seychelles hospital lab
The govt of Seychelles signed an agreement with an Indian healthcare services company to manage a diagnostics lab.
The government of Seychelles Tuesday signed an agreement with an Indian healthcare services company to manage a diagnostics lab in the island nation.
The alliance between the health ministry of Seychelles and Metropolis Health Services (I) Pvt Ltd is to manage the clinical laboratory services of Victoria Hospital in Mahe in this Indian Ocean archipelago.
Metropolis is a chain of diagnostics centres with over 1,000 labs in and outside India. Its centres provide over 1,200 specialised tests, ranging from oncology to genetics, molecular biology and immunoassays.
Announcing the tie-up here, V. Ramadoss, advisor to the ministry of health in the Seychelles government, said: "The government of Seychelles is committed to providing high quality healthcare to the entire population of the country."
"As part of this objective and under the new modernisation initiative of the president, the government has roped in Metropolis to equip, modernise and improve the clinical laboratory at Victoria Hospital in Seychelles."
Metropolis already provides independent hospital lab management services in Dubai and is planning to set up its own laboratories in Dubai, Sri Lanka and Africa.
Metropolis offers independent assessment expertise to many hospitals, such as Chennai's Malar Hospital, the M.S. Ramaiah Hospital in Bangalore and the Gulf Medical College Hospital in Dubai.
"We are hopeful of converting the Victoria Hospital laboratory into a role model government hospital laboratory," G.S.K. Velu, managing director of Metropolis, said.
"We will work towards achieving globally accepted quality accreditations such as ISO/IEC 15189 for the Victoria Hospital laboratory."
