Jogi engineered cash-on-camera sting
CBI told SC that expose involving Judeo was planned by Amit Jogi.
In the cash-on-camera expose involving former Union Minister Dilip Singh Judeo, the CBI has told the Supreme Court that the sting operation was planned by Amit Jogi with a "motive to derive political mileage in favour of Ajit Jogi" ahead of Chhattisgarh elections.
Filing an affidavit in response to a petition filed by Bhupinder Patel alias Rahul for quashing the case registered against him, the agency said "during/around July 2003, Amit Jogi, son of Ajit Jogi, then Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, hatched a plan with Rajat Prasad, Arvind Vijaymohan and the petitioner, to video record Dilip Singh Judeo, in the act of receiving the bribe.
"This plan was aimed to disgrace Judeo, who was a political leader from Chhattisgarh, just prior to election to the Assembly. The motive was to derive political mileage in favour of Ajit Jogi, the then Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh," the affidavit said.
The agency narrated the entire modus operandi of the video sting operation as well as its sequence including the Urdu couplet recited by Judeo after receiving the money.
The agency claimed that Patel had "disclosed that he had incurred expenses worth Rs 15/16 lakhs in the entire operation to trap Judeo" but added that the statement of Patel that he got this money from sale of agricultural land was not true.
Dismissing the claim of the petitioner that he acted to expose corruption in public life, the CBI punched holes in his statements and said the agency has completed "its field investigation and the results of the investigation is under scrutiny".
