IT WAS a unique mosaic of two traditional instruments of Indian classical music, ‘tabla’ and ‘santoor’ when their undisputed maestros Pt. Kishan Maharaj and Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma respectively shared the dais on the first day of the three-day cultural extravaganza ‘Ganga Mahotsava’ held here late last night.
Both these maestros enthralled one and all during the cultural night. The duet performance of Pt. Kishan Maharaj and Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma left a memorable impression on the audience. Another budding ‘Tabla’ player Shubh Maharaj accompanied the legendary classical musicians in their performance.
The duet performance started with `Raag Rageshwari’ and then proceeded to other ‘raagas,’ with the maestros holding the audience spellbound with their performance.
Earlier, the programme started with a ‘Shehnai’ recital by Naiyyar Hussain, successor of the late Ustad Bismillah Khan. While Shweta Mishra of Lucknow, performed `Shiv Stuti’ through a brilliant Kathak dance. Semi-classical singer from Kolkata, Purnima Chaudhary also rendered various `raagas’ in her inimitable style.
