Finance Minister P Chidambaram has on Sunday denied reports that income tax officials had put pressure on Amitabh Bachchan to pay up his taxes when he was admitted in the ICU.

The Income Tax Department had served two notices before Bachchan was hospitalised, the second one barely four days before he had taken ill, Chidambaram said on the sidelines of the 82nd AICC Plenary.

Chidambaram further clarified that no income tax official had visited Bachchan while he was in the hospital.

The Minister, however, pleaded ignorance on the timing of the third notice, stating that he was abroad.
