NPF victorious in Nagaland
Wangyuh Konyak of NPF, a major constituent of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland has emerged a winner with a record margin of over 4,05,000 votes defeating Congress MP in the dissolved Lok Sabha K Asungba Sangtam.
Although the results of election to the lone parliamentary seat in Nagaland was not announced officially on technical ground, Wangyuh Konyak of Nagaland People's Front (NPF), a major constituent of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) on Thursday emerged a winner with a record margin of over 4,05,000 votes defeating Congress MP in the dissolved Lok Sabha K Asungba Sangtam.
Results available from 58 assembly segments out of the total 60, showed that Wangyuh Konyak polled 6,35,593 votes against 2,31,118 polled by Asungba Sangtam.
One EVM each in two polling stations in Kiphire and Peren districts respectively developed problems.
The two EVMs were being brought to Kohima for repair by engineers and counting, officials said.
As the machines were likely to be reached at midnight, the formal announcement of results was likely to be made only on Friday morning, they said.
Meanwhile, there was jubilition in the DAN camp for the impressive margin secured by its consensus candidate.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio told reporters that whatever party or alliance formed the next government at the Centre must persue the Naga problem with sincerity for an early settlement as per wishes of the people.
