The auspicious ceremony symbolises the transfer of knowledge, skill and the glorious spirit of nursing down from the age of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, also known as ‘Lady with the Lamp’.
As a tradition, the light of knowledge from the senior most nursing officer in the station is passed through teachers to the new entrants in the nursing profession. On the occasion, a student takes the oath to dedicate herself to her the profession reciting the ‘Florence Nightingale Pledge’.
Maj Gen Subroto Kundu, Commandant, Command Hospital, Central Command was the chief guest on the occasion. He also felicitated the meritorious students PN Sudharshana Bomzon, PN Megha K, and PN Garuravdeep Kaur for securing first, second and third positions in the preliminary examination. Brig M Chako, DDMNS Head Quarter Central Command, lit the lamp of knowledge, which signified the passing of knowledge from the teacher to the taught. The welcome speech was delivered by Brig VA Rachael, Principal Matron, while Lt Col TK Bhutia, Principal Tutor, School of Nursing, presented the school report and highlighted various achievements of the school.
