The Congress on Friday warned the BJP-led government that there will be no transaction of business during the coming monsoon session of Parliament if Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje were not asked to quit.
Alleging there is a “nexus” between Lalit Modi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Swaraj, Raje, BJP chief Amit Shah and industrialist Gautam Adani, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said: “There is an unholy nexus between Chotta Modi (Lalit Modi) and Bada Modi (PM). The government is caught in a trap of its own making. The only way out for the survival of government and saving the monsoon session is resignation of Swaraj and Raje. We expect the PM to speak after Yoga Diwas. He is now sitting in ‘Lalit Asana’ with his ears, mouth and eyes closed,” he added.
The session is crucial for the government with Goods and Services Tax (GST), land and real estate bills to be taken up. The GST is scheduled to be rolled out from April 1, 2016. The challenge for the Congress is to take along other opposition parties that have been soft on Swaraj.
Ramesh said in 2009, when he was the Gujarat CM, Narendra Modi became Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) president and Adani was made commercial promoter. “Five years later, the current BJP chief was made GCA president while Adani continued to be the promoter.”
