Four militant groups of the northeast, including the outlawed ULFA, on Tuesday gave a boycott call of Republic Day celebrations and a 18-hour general strike on January 26.

ULFA, Kamtapur Liberation Organisation, Manipur People's Liberation Front and Tripura People's Democratic Front issued a 'solidarity statement' calling upon the people to boycott Republic Day and its celebrations in the region.

The general strike will begin from 1 am and continue till 6 pm throughout the region, the statement said.

The groups appealed to other organisations of the region to endorse the 'statement' and observe the boycott and general strike.
