The vagrant was found dead on Friday with head injuries caused likely by a sharp weapon near the Shiva temple in Manipuri Basti area of Paltanbazaar.

Additional Superintendent of Police Debojit Deuri said the 35-year old was hit on the back of the head with a sharp weapon, resulting in a deep gap, approximately 3 cm long and 1.5 cm wide.

The unidentified killer, dubbed as “stoneman”, has caused flutter in the city stalking lonely areas near Panbazar and Bharalumukh police stations and targeting beggars or pavement dwellers in the early morning.

With this the total number of those killed under similar circumstances here shot up to six while four others were injured.

The assailant used the same modus operandi in every case either hitting the victims below the ear on both sides of the head leading to death or injuring them in such a way that they lost their power to speak, Deuri said.

Personal gains do not seem to be the motive behind the attacks as the killer does not steal money of the beggars or take away their belongings.
